The Chiang Mai Documentary Arts Festival is one of the major projects of Documentary Arts Asia. It is bi-annual photography and film festival designed to serve the growing number of people interested in documentary photography and film in Thailand and Asia.

The 2015 Edition is currently gearing up and will be running in Chiang Mai from February 1-8th.

The Chiang Mai Documentary Arts Festival 2013 ran from the 8th of February to the 14th of February. The program included exhibitions by Shahidul Alam, Ekkarat Punyatara, Vlad Sokhin, students from DAA’s Satellite Center in Kachin State, Greenpeace, an Asian Women Photographers Showcase, a Kashmiri Photographers Showcase, a DAA Retrospective Exhibition, and several partner exhibitions around Chiang Mai. We hosted film-making workshops, held a photobook showcase, and screened five excellent prize-winning documentaries including The Cheer Ambassadors, 5 Broken Cameras, The Choice, Golden Slumbers, and High Tech, Low Life. We hosted artist talks, arranged portfolio reviews, held a raffle and print auction, and much more. The first Chiang Mai Documentary Arts Festival ran between the 24th and 26th February 2012 and featured exhibitions by Paula Bronstein, Ami Vitale, Veejay Villafranca, Greg Constantine, Suthep Kritsanavarin, Sitthixay Ditthavong and National Geographic All Roads as well as three days of workshops and portfolio reviews, and three nights of film screenings and events.
